A crafty The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask fan crafts the game’s cartridge and a Nintendo 64 controller from LEGO.

A LEGO builder recreated the cartridge for The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and a Nintendo 64 controller made from LEGO bricks. LEGO sets based on Nintendo properties have grown in popularity in recent years, and one fan’s creativity showed what a set based on Majora’s Mask might look like.

Majora’s Mask was the second of two games of the The Legend of Zelda series released on Nintendo 64. The first Zelda game on this platform was Ocarina of time in 1998, a groundbreaking title still considered one of the best video games of all time. Although not as revered as its predecessor, Majora’s Mask still has a strong fanbase and introduced several series icons such as the Deku Mask and the Moon, both of which have become synonymous with the game and have maintained their relevance in the franchise. It was first released in 2000, got a remake for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015, and was recently made available on Switch as one of the N64 games available with the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Both Zelda games on the N64 had gold cartridges which made them separate inclusions of any N64 collection. The walleye Majora’s Mask cartridge as well as the N64 controller have been recreated by a LEGO builder. The builder, who goes by the username donutsftw on Reddit, shared his creation on various gaming subreddits. It appears to have been made in a similar fashion to the NES LEGO set, an apt comparison because the Majora’s Mask recreation also included a miniature version of an N64 TV setup.

The builder also expressed hope that after the success of the official Nintendo LEGO sets, a LEGO Nintendo 64 set could one day become a reality. The launch of LEGO mario sets in 2021 was one of LEGO’s most successful themed launches that year, showing that there’s a lot of crossover between LEGO fans and gamers. The mario The line continued to grow with a host of expansions, but aside from the LEGO NES set, no other Nintendo-themed LEGO sets were released.

There have been previous fan efforts for LEGO sets themed from other Nintendo franchises, the most prominent of these being a fan idea for a LEGO set based on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which gained a considerable amount of traction online last year. The proposed set’s page has gotten enough votes on the LEGO Ideas website to be officially reviewed, but nothing has come of it yet. LEGO fan creations have shown that there is a strong demand for a LEGO set based on Zelda. An official release of these concepts would surely be successful, but it’s up to Nintendo to help bring these ideas to fruition.
