It’s the weekend, and it’s time to kick back and play a video game or two.
Some of us, me in particular, aren’t playing anything this weekend because the PC is still sick. Or something. The beautiful light on the motherboard is orange and flashes slowly, and it does not light up. So either my RAM is screwed, or the power button magically broke, or the power got weak. I always thought the power was off or working, but what do I know about the inner workings of computers? Nothing. I do know how to activate one though.
Other members of the VG247 team plan to play this weekend while spending time away from the screen. Here is what happens:
Connor Makar, Editor – Warframe
This weekend, I am afraid to report that once again, Warframe sank its fangs into me. I can’t help it, this is the perfect game to kick off and kill a few hours. I’m hoping to finally cross a few long-term goals off my list this time around, including finally getting the illusory Wolf Sledge…wouldn’t that be nice.
That’s kind of the problem with being the live service guy, I think. I feel like I’m constantly bouncing around the same 5-6 games. I’m going to run out on one, then remember another one I haven’t touched in a while and go right back to that.
With Destiny 2 getting a new update later this month, I’m sure it’s going to be the next big one, which means I should probably make sure I’m prepared enough for it. I promise I’ll try to do some chores too, believe me.
Dom Peppiatt, Editor – Elden Ring
No, you’re a year behind everyone else. After shoving my way through Bloodborne (all hail the threaded rod!) and dipping my toe into Dark Souls to celebrate the annual Return to Lordran event, I finally decided to bite the big golden bullet and to start up Ring of Elden.
You were fine; it’s wonderfull. I don’t think I’m as enamored of the open world as I am the whole world, but I really appreciate the way the world reacts to you, the weird lore that underlies everything, and how you can make your own challenge by ripping off places you really shouldn’t until you’re at least a few levels stronger.
But my weekend is not going to be all tarnished and grateful. Saturday night I’m off to Shepherd’s Bush to (finally) see Dance Gavin Dance live – a band I’ve been following for nearly a decade and performing in my hometown. The delight! The carnage! Nonsense! So, I can’t wait to bounce around the crowd, shouting lyrics like “endorphin orphan morph, lemon cheese too” or “clip clop, clip clip clop the horse is coming and beating your parents”…all the while thinking of the horse that came in and beat me at Elden Ring. Post-hardcore and video games – finally together.
Kelsey Raynor, Guides Editor – Arcade on the Go!
I’m seeing a friend this weekend who I don’t see very often, which excites me. They’re big gamers too, so we’re actually going to the arcades! This means that we will inevitably spend most of our time with OutRun 2 SP, or Crazy Taxi.
Beyond that, I’ll probably force her to play Borderlands 2 with me, and continue my endless Civilization 6 campaign when she gets home. I’m currently playing as Scotland and in the middle of a war with a random city-state, which I’m losing, so wish me luck.
That’s pretty much us. What do you think? What are you playing this weekend?
