Serie A on Paramount+: schedule, scenarios and everything you need to know in the race for the Scudetto

The 2022-23 Serie A season on Paramount+ is underway and runs until May as we expect a heated race for the Scudetto. AC Milan are the defending champions after their incredible run to the title last season as InterMilan and Juventus have high hopes of joining the race. Romeunder legendary manager Jose Mourinho, hope their offseason additions will also be enough to bring them into the conversation. Naples started strong under the impressive play of young Georgian striker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Promoted teams are Lecce, Cremonese and Monzaand they all aim to avoid the fate of Cagliari, Genoa and Venice, all of whom were relegated last season. You can catch all the action, including select matches in Italian, live on Paramount+ throughout the season.

Here’s what you need to know about this week’s action:

Scenarios

1. A Key Scudetto Match

Napoli will play Juventus at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Friday in what could become a crucial clash for the Scudetto race. After losing their first match of the Serie A season against Inter Milan, Napoli reacted and won against Sampdoria. Juventus are in incredible form and have won the last eight games without conceding a single goal. Massimiliano Allegri’s side are now seven points behind the Serie A leaders and winning on Friday will completely change the direction of this title race in the coming weeks.

2. The crucial week for AC Milan and Inter Milan

AC Milan and Inter Milan will play on Saturday and then travel to Riyadh where on Wednesday January 18 they will face off in the Supercoppa Italiana. The Rossoneri will face Lecce away, while Inter Milan will play at San Siro against Hellas Verona. Two fairly easy games on paper, but last week’s action showed that there are no easy games in Serie A. Inter Milan drew against Monza, while AC Milan conceded two goals in the dying minutes of the game against AS Roma and also drew 2-2. Given that Napoli will play Juventus on Friday, it could become a particularly interesting weekend for Stefano Pioli and Simone Inzaghi ahead of the Derby della Madonnina which takes place next Wednesday.

3. The relegation battle

It will also be an interesting weekend for the relegation battle. Cremonese decided to keep coach Massimiliano Alvini despite losing a key match against Hellas Verona on Monday. Cremonese will play another important match against Monza on Saturday which will also probably decide their coach’s future. Sampdoria will face Empoli away on Monday, while Hellas Verona will play Inter Milan on Saturday. There are currently six points between 17th-placed Spezia and Verona and Sampdoria after 17 Serie A matches.
