Many pundits wondered how Hill would cope with Teixeira’s tough challenges. The tone was set early when Hill put an end to numerous takedown attempts by Teixeira. The first round was heavily contested from distance with an occasional (failed) attempt by Teixeira to drag it down.

In the end, the corners and medics decided to let the fight continue, to which Teixeira exclaimed, “Let’s go, baby. (Expletive) A.”

Teixeira came out aggressive, straight on Hill. Within the first minute, he took down Hill and found himself mounted. Hill swooped in and found himself on top – a crucial knockdown. One minute from the end, Texeira escaped on his feet. As the clock ticked, Hill avoided unnecessary rallies en route to the final bell.

Moments after the title was wrapped around an emotional Hill’s waist, Teixeira removed his gloves and placed them in the center of the cage – as he announced his retirement.

“I’m too tough for my own good,” Teixeira said. “I’m too hard on my own health,” he explained why he’d rather turn to coaching at this point in his life.
