Finn Wolfhard Correctly Guessed the ‘Stranger Things’ Spinoff Idea

  • Finn Wolfhard said he correctly guessed the plot of a potential ‘Stranger Things’ spin-off.
  • He said on “The Tonight Show” that he was joking with the team about what a spinoff might look like.
  • Little did Wolfhard know, creators Matt and Ross Duffer had already thought of the idea.

Finn Wolfhard said he accidentally guessed at the idea of a “Stranger Things” spin-off while joking about the show’s future on set.

Wolfhard, who stars in the hit Netflix series as Mike Wheeler, appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday to promote his new movie, “When You Finish Saving The World.”

Wolfhard said he came up with the idea for a “Stranger Things” spin-off and shocked the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, because it’s an idea they’re already considering.

“So we were on the set of ‘Stranger Things 4’ and we were all talking about whether there was going to be [a spinoff]”, Wolfhard said. “Like joking, ‘Oh, they’re gonna take us all back in 20 years. We’re all gonna be fat and old and be like, ‘Oh, Evan, where are you?'”

He added, without revealing his big idea: “And then I was like, ‘Oh, but, if you’re really going to do a spin-off, this should be it. “”

Wolfhard said Matt and Ross Duffer looked at each other, then looked at him before pulling him aside to chat.

Wolfhard recalled, “They were like ‘That’s the idea. ? Who told you that I was like, ‘Nobody.’ They were like, ‘What do you mean? You just, like, found it?’ And I was like, ‘Well, no, I just thought that would be a cool way to grow…’ And they were like, ‘It is.'”

Wolfhard said the Duffers then told him to keep the idea to himself.

Last year, the Duffer brothers said they planned to create a spin-off series and a play in the “Stranger Things” world.

In May 2022, they told Variety that only Wolfhard knows about the idea they have for the spinoff.

“We have a spinoff idea that we’re super excited about…but we haven’t spoken to anyone about the idea yet, let alone written it,” the Duffer brothers wrote in an email to the publication. “We think everyone – including Netflix – will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. , no one else knows!”

They later said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that the spin-off would be “1000% different” from the original series and would not focus on pre-existing characters.
