Chelsea drop bizarre transfer statement before confirming signing

Chelsea appeared to have hijacked Arsenal’s attempt to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, and the Blues are already publishing about it, despite not having officially signed him yet.

It looked like the Ukrainian striker was set to sign this month, with the Premier League leaders deep in talks with Shakhtar over the price.

The selling club were very sure of getting the asking price for the highly-rated 22-year-old, while Arsenal obviously wanted to get the best deal for themselves.

It looked like the player really wanted to move to North London too, with his social media activity really hinting that a move to Arsenal was his wish.

On Saturday night however, it was revealed that Chelsea were close to going over the deal to sign the striker, having racked up the money for him.

And the Blues are so confident that they added Mudryk’s Instagram page to their own bio and started posting everything about him on their social media.

They even released a statement ahead of the signing, saying: “Chelsea are discussing terms with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk.

“If an agreement is reached between the two clubs, the Ukraine international, who can operate as a winger or a striker, will discuss personal terms with the Blues ahead of a permanent transfer.”

According to reports on Sunday, the Blues’ new signing is expected to be at Stamford Bridge later today and parade onto the pitch ahead of their Premier League game with Crystal Palace.

One person who won’t be on the pitch is Joao Felix, who was the club’s last acquisition before Mudryk’s arrival.

The loanee Atletico Madrid striker is suspended for three games, having been sent off on his debut earlier in the week as Graham Potter’s side lost to Fulham.

The Blues’ loss to Fulham, coupled with Southampton’s win over Southampton on Saturday, means they are currently as close to the bottom of the table as they are top four in the league.

Mudryk’s signing will take their expenses for the year to over €400m which clearly hasn’t helped them given the situation they find themselves in.

The pressure naturally began to mount on Potter, who would have already been sacked under the club’s old regime.

There are reports that Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner will be fielded by the Stamford Bridge side, should they decide to sack the former Brighton boss.
