An Apex Legends fan offers his idea for a Sentinel upgrade that would make the sniper rifle more useful in certain situations.
There are many ways Respawn Entertainment could possibly improve Apex Legends, and a fan has an idea for a change he’d like to see. 2022 has seen several welcome changes made to Apex Legends, and it’s likely that 2023 will have at least a few. Such a change could make the Sentinel sniper rifle a useful tool for breaking down doors, if said fan is successful.
The odds are the most Apex Legends players know the hassle of dealing with enemy players hiding behind doors. By closing one and standing right behind it, it’s possible to prevent other players from opening the door, and since doors can’t normally be destroyed by shooting at them, this usually requires players to fall back on grenades or melee attacks if they feel like breaking through. As a result, many gamers are keeping an eye out for any cheats that make it easier to break down doors in Apex Legends.
One way the game could achieve this would be to give Sentinel the ability to break down doors, a suggestion made by Reddit user Lenny_72_72. In their message, they asked the Apex Legends community their thoughts on the sniper rifle being able to destroy doors when charged, similar to the buff the Rampage LMG currently has. This hypothetical upgrade would only break down a door instead of penetrating it, they said, making the Sentinel useful against the ephemeral barrier without completely removing the protection it provides to enemy players.
In some settings, the Rampage can enter a “Revved Up” state by consuming a thermite grenade, temporarily increasing its rate of fire, and making it capable of breaking down doors with two hits. The Sentinel, on the other hand, can be “Boosted”, which briefly increases damage dealt when a shield cell is used. With the similarity of the two mechanics, Lenny_72_72 thinks it would make sense for both weapons to have the Door Breaker buff when charged, not just the Rampage.
The overall reception to their suggestion was generally positive, with many fans agreeing that the upgrade would be a welcome addition to the Sentinel, as well as a balanced addition. The Sentinel is far from being one of the Apex Legends‘ the most versatile weapon thanks to its slow rate of fire, but it would also ensure that a burglary upgrade could be useful without being overpowered, as it could give enemy players time to react when their cover is down in pieces.
It remains to be seen if Respawn will ever consider adding such a buff to Sentinel. However, with Apex Legends Season 16 is expected to arrive next month, players should expect more changes to the in-game weapons soon.
Apex Legends is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
