Andrew Tate leaves Bucharest court in handcuffs amid human trafficking allegations

Andrew Tate continues to reach millions of followers online with his cryptic tweets – despite being arrested – the latest saying he’s “surrounded by cockroaches” and “hunting in the dark”.

In a tweet posted on Thursday evening, the former kickboxer wrote, “Pitch black surrounded by cockroaches. Unable to sleep, I hunt in the dark. Waiting for daybreak to count my kills.

The controversial influencer was arrested in Bucharest, Romania, on December 29 and recently lost an appeal against a judge’s earlier decision to extend his arrest from 24 hours to 30 days.

Prosecutors can now seek to extend the 36-year-old controversial former kickboxer and influencer’s detention period to 180 days.

The rejection was followed by further searches by Romanian authorities, as DIICOT, the prosecutors handling the case, announced that seven houses were raided on Thursday morning in Bucharest, Ilfov counties and Prahova.

The 36-year-old has gained notoriety over the years by promoting an ultra-masculine, ultra-luxurious lifestyle online.

“Have you noticed how happy you feel? You’ve been happy all this time, but you haven’t paid attention to it. Keep smiling. Then back to work.

When influencer Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania during a police raid, he was held alongside three other people – one of whom was his brother.

Tristan Tate, who is also a former kickboxer turned social media influencer, was arrested in December in connection with a human trafficking and rape investigation by Romania’s organized crime agency Didcot.

The four suspects, including the Tate brothers, will be held for 30 days after a judge extended their initial detention period by 24 hours, Didcot spokeswoman Ramona Bolla said. Prosecutors say they found six women who had been sexually exploited by the suspects.

Romania raids 7 homes in influencer Andrew Tate case

Romania’s organized crime agency has carried out additional house searches as part of its investigation into social media influencer Andrew Tate, an official said on Thursday.

Ramona Bolla, spokeswoman for the agency, DIICOT, said searches were underway in Bucharest, Ilfov and Prahova counties “in order to obtain additional evidence”.

Thursday’s searches come a day after Tate lost a second appeal this week in a Bucharest court, where he challenged prosecutors’ seizure of assets in late December searches, including properties, land and a fleet of luxury cars.

More than 10 properties and land belonging to companies registered with the Tate brothers have also been seized so far.

How Andrew Tate Became the Poster of the Hard Right | Comment

Katherine Dekinsonon the rise of the influencer: Andrew Tate should have been anathema to people who spend half their time telling us they are not far right. But, instead, he became a well-dressed, wealthy caricature of a successful ‘alpha male’, leading high-profile television interviews with the likes of Piers Morgan.

Julia Hartley-Brewer, who tweeted that she would choose Tate’s lifestyle over that of ‘doomsday eco-cultist’ Greta Thunberg, later claimed she didn’t really know who Tate was, calling him of “irrelevant”. She’s since decided that Tate was, in fact, a “misogynistic villain.”

Interestingly, earlier this week, Hartley-Brewer also appeared on TalkTV to discuss the actions of the rioters in Brazil and the Capitol insurrection, saying that “what happened with…Trump and Bolsonaro started on the left “.

The concept of the left responsible for the Capitol insurgency has existed since 2021, when Republicans pushed it to turn away from its own actions on Jan. 6. It’s been repeatedly refuted, but remains strong in the QAnon conspiracy circuit that sees the left and Antifa as working for the powers that be – while representing the disenfranchised ‘alternative right’, a group that could presumably claiming Tate as one of their own. The Capitol claim is one of the most egregious examples of conspiracy theories making their way into mainstream news, but not the only one.

Andrew Tate: A Timeline of His Rise and Fall

Andrew Tate, the controversial former kickboxing world champion turned social media influencer, has lost his appeal in court against his detention in Romania on charges of rape and human trafficking (Joe Sommerlad writing).

Eugen Vidineac, a lawyer representing the 36-year-old and his brother Tristan, also detained, insisted that “there is not a single piece of evidence apart from the victim impact statement” to support the allegations.

Mr Tate has amassed millions of followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok over the past decade. But he has also had his accounts banned due to inflammatory statements he has made, often appearing to advocate violence against women, which the platforms have deemed against their policies.

Frequently accused of embodying toxic masculinity and misogyny, having claimed that women cannot drive, belong in the house and are the property of a man, Mr Tate has made inconsistent statements on the subject. He told the Anything goes with James English podcast in June 2021 that he was “absolutely sexist” and “absolutely misogynistic”, only to then claim on Piers Morgan uncensored more recently that he was “absolutely not”.
